A total knee replacement (TKR) is a surgical procedure to replace the worn-out or damaged knee joint. The new implants are designed to mimic the natural knee joint and allow for pain-free movement. Another common orthopedic surgery, total knee replacement is performed to relieve pain and improve function in people with knee arthritis and other conditions that damage the knee joint.
You can count on Dr. Shakir as your orthopedic surgeon for total knee replacement and knee replacement revisions! Schedule your appointment today for a consultation.
The first step when making the decision about hip replacement is to meet with your surgeon to see if you are a candidate for total hip replacement surgery. Dr. Shakir primarily uses ceramic on poly for hip replacements.
Dr. Shakir does use computer navigation for his hip replacements. He will use technology if necessary due to deformities or retained implants from previous surgeries. He is certified and credentialed to use computer navigation and X-ray fluoroscopy during surgery.
Traditionally, hip arthroplasty, commonly known as hip replacement, has been performed by accessing the joint through the rear of the leg.
Recent advances in technique, however, have made an anterior approach, during which the surgeon accesses the hip joint through the front of the leg, a more desirable option for most patients.
Because joints are in constant use, they often wear out over time due to overuse or aging. Joint reconstruction or replacement may be required to relieve the resulting pain and restore function.
Depending on the extent of the damage, there are several surgical options to repair or replace joints, varying in complexity, durability and recovery time.
Robotic-assisted joint replacement at Shakir Hip and Knee combines cutting-edge technology with expert surgical care to ensure precise, personalized treatment for each patient.
The process involves three key steps:
